Dong Zhi 冬至 on December 21st, is one of the most important Jie Qi in China as it's also a holiday that ushers in the Lunar New Year. There are many traditions that we do during Dong Zhi including a fun activity where you start a calligraphy or painting that includes exactly 9x9=81 strokes/steps. We do one step each day starting from Li Dong, and once we are finished with our calligraphy or painting, Spring is here!
This is a super fun activity to do for both kids and adults. We want to make this a public event so we can all have fun together. There's a nominal $3 charge so we can keep the headcount accurate as we prepare the material.
To make it extra special, we have invited porcelain expert Tao Zi to come give us a talk on the evolution of teaware from early Ming Dynasty till today! Loose leaf tea started in Ming Dynasty, and with that emerges a new chapter of teaware in the history of ceramics. From emperor to emperor, preferences in aesthetics change, so is new technique in porcelain craftsmanship. Tao Zi will showcase stunning teaware representing significant milestones from dynasty times to today.
Tao Zi was a senior porcelain appraiser at Poly Auction in China. Do not miss this opportunity to learn from a true porcelain expert!
